Large abstract map painting mixed media on canvas by Heidi Swift British Artist

The Mapping

Ecnyonna a place where light is light, simple and friendly and the dark is the unknown evil that we enter into. The mapping is a large canvas piece that's purpose is to map the realms of Ecnyonna and compile it into one easy to absorb place, a difficult task that I did not take lightly. To pursue this I had to enter the realm of Ecnyonna multiple times to attempt to map the places I arrived at. without the original artwork intact it is almost now impossible to read as the grainy 2015 Samsung phone camera has not done it justice, this is all that remains from the map.

Herma and Nyx

translation to day and night, The greatest examples of light and dark we encounter. In Ecnayonna time does not pass like day and night, you could be in the darkness for what feels like years, when in reality only moments have past. This specimen was displayed at The Cooper Art Gallery as part of a group exhibition - June 2016.

Stories and Poems of Ecnayonna

Documented in this book were short stories and poems from my visits. I made it from the skins of warrior Elephant like creatures. They would decorate themselves in glitter and sequins when fighting against the darkness. At the end of battles they shed their skin.

The vortex

Since I was young I've always seen these orbs of light, it wasn't until I succumbed to them that I was able to trance myself. They lead me into the vortex. Here is a short story mentioning the vortex that was in the orginal book.

"I've had that reacuring dream again where my bed that I lay on is falling through the floor taking me through a spiral of vivid colours, full of floating balls of colour, I reach out to grab them but they fad at my touch. It feels so real I can feel myself falling like I'm going into a trance. The bed then comes to a rapid halt and like a feather it settles on the pink polkadot ground. The ground seems to change each time, maybe I land in a different spot or maybe the ground moves. It's difficult to tell. I climbed down from my bed onto the floor carefully trying to aviod standing on one of the pink polkadots, last time I did that I swear I heard it crying.

All I could see was polka dots and the clear white sky. I began to explore as I usually do, striding through the polka dot meadow still avoiding the dots to the best that I could when finally I saw a new landscape, a large pink hill this one with purple polka dots and in the background there was blue mountains with pink striped tops. This was the furthest I had been into the dream world, I'd never seen past the ground I had landed on even after walking miles. I saw something on the floor just a few metres away from my feet, I stepped closer towards it and knelt down to inspect this unidentified object. Some kind of clear fabric, with blended swirls, splashes of colour and a lot of glitter that was dazzling under the bright white sky. It was just laying there so I guessed no one would mind if I took it, so I picked it up and stuffed it in my pj's pocket. I wondered what it could be from, I hadn't seen any animals here but maybe it could of been some kind of snake that's shed it's skin. I continued to walk towards the pink stripe mountains, when I felt myself lifting, the sky had opened and my bed that had been miles behind me flew towards me and picked me up into the colourful vortex that had opened up again for me, through all the wizing colours." - April 2016.

The all seeing

What is this eye looking back at me?

Just one single eye as far as I can see,

Not sinister, nor fear,

Yet why are you here?

Am I dreaming?

This eye is beaming,

Pupil centre and lashers spread,

Am I living or am I dead?
