Lost or destroyed.
This page contains some of the works from my time at University. I explored three different main themes;
Childhood memories,
I collected photographs and textile patterns from my childhood to recreate something that I lost as a child - a pink bunny rabbit - to me it symbolises something much more, it symbolises the feeling of being misunderstood - my mum didn't realise why I was crying, I couldn't explain because I was too young. Now I've lost the whole project and any photographs of it ironically. If I didn't put this here it would only live on in my memories. I figured I'd mention it as it's from this period and the feeling of being misunderstood is a feeling I carry with me alot from time to time.
The pit
I go through periods where I don't feel very sociable. I go inwards and reflect. I spent abit of time on the old North Gawber Colliery pit site instead of going to University.
I was inspired by the nature taking over the site, the textures the fly tipping everything intertwining, burnt out sofas, boggy green swamps and of course the black coal from the ground. Fascinated by this battle that was going on I started painting on leaves, collecting pieces of coal and even broken bits from old TVs. I did paintings and drawings from the site and created this massive project. Documenting the story of nature vs man that was happening adding my own artist aesthetic touches here and there. It led me down a path of exploration, could I let my natural subconscious take over and create a similair battle of nature vs control within my art?
Only a few photos remain.
Coal and polish - 2014.
Coal and polish on card.
Part of a large series of abstract landscape paintings. I took coal from the old North Gawber Coillery Pit and sanded it down using sand paper and water to create a black paste.
